The Kersey Police Department in conjunction with several state police departments have put in place the SOTAR program which tracks and registers sex offenders at www.sotar.us

 

The Town has a full-time police department headed by Chief David Gottschalk.  The Town of Kersey has three full-time officers as well.  The Kersey Police Department supplies 24 hour a day coverage through in service and on call status.  The department is dedicated to supplying fair and non-biased service to the community through the "Community Policing" concept.  the department does not have a designated school resource officer but does work very closely with the Platte Valley elementary, middle, and high schools. 

 

Communications are provided by Weld County Communication Center.  Please contact Town Hall at 970-353-1681 for a copy of a police report.   

 

The Kersey Police Department staff is listed below.

 

David Gottschalk  was appointed Chief of Police in February, 2015. Chief Gottschalk has served in law enforcement since 1990. He has served as a command level officer for the past 15 years. He served 6 years in the United States Army prior to becoming a Police Officer. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Justice Administration and is a graduate from the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command and the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Law Enforcement Executive Development School.     

 

Richard (Rick) Florence was hired February 2014 and comes from the Johnstown Police Department. He was promoted to Operations Sergeant in March of 2015 and serves as the second in command of the Kersey Police Department.

 

James Thienes  started December 1, 2015 from our reserve program. 

 

Mark Burke was recently hired from Reserve Program as well.  He has experience from the Logan County Sheriff's Office. 

 

Our current reserve officers are Jontue Collier and Adam Hayes.
